Frequently Asked Questions

What is an assisted living home?

Assisted living is part of the long term care continuum which provides housing, personal services, health care, and social programming for those who need assistance with daily activities in a manner which promotes their independence and dignity. Assisted living homes are also commonly known as Residential Care, Adult Congregate Living and Personal Care homes. Regardless of the terminology, they all provide a level of care which meets the needs of those who do not require the services of a nursing home, but need more care than an independent living complex can offer.

Assisted living centers typically provide the following:

  • 24-hour staff security
  • Assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing and grooming
  • Medication monitoring
  • Meal service
  • Activities and exercise programs
  • Laundry and housekeeping services
  • Transportation
  • Barber and beauty services

What is independent living?

Independent living homes typically provide an apartment or suite in a secure environment along with are variety of services such as housekeeping, laundry, a meal plan and activities. While a call system may be available for emergencies, healthcare services are not included as part of an independent living arrangement.

Assisted living and independent living services may be offered in the same building based on the needs of the individual residents.

Who pays for assisted living services?

Assisted living services are funded privately or through a long term care insurance policy. Medicare does not cover assisted living services and this home does not accept Medicaid assisted living reimbursement.

May I have my own furniture?

Absolutely, feel free to use your furniture, pictures, and keepsakes to decorate your home here. Please make sure that you leave yourself plenty of space to get around safely.

Are pets welcomed?

We are a certified Eden Alternative Home and we have several pets which live in our home. You are welcome to have your own pet so long as it meets our compatibility requirements and maintains a clean bill of health from your veterinarian. Residents or family members are expected to care for individual pets.

Will I be given a schedule?

Not at all. You are welcome to sleep in and have a late breakfast or get up early for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also offered for extended times. Activities and ongoing projects are designed and scheduled by the Elders in each neighborhood. Any individual care will be scheduled according to your desires.

Is transportation provided?

Yes, scheduled transportation is provided and two trips are included in your monthly fee. Should you need any additional transportation during the month, you will be billed at a reasonable rate.
